ChesterBoat Pleasure Boat Skipper Role Description

To skipper our fleet of passenger boats during daytime sightseeing cruise operations and during daytime and evening private charters and themed public cruises.

The Pleasure Boat Manager.

Depending on experience.

April-October 2018

To include, but not limited to the following:

Ensuring safe navigation of the river – including mooring the vessel and leaving the landing stage – at all times.

Responsibility for the care, welfare and safety of ALL persons on board, including passengers, crew members, stewards and contractors.

Being aware of, and being able to, handle ALL emergency drills, equipment and procedures.

Supervising the crew members/stewards, setting daily task lists with regard to cleaning and maintenance of the vessel.

Supervising the crew members in setting daily task lists with regard to evening cruises, ensuring the vessel has sufficient bar stock and glasses and tasks such as polishing boarding drink glasses and detailed cleaning of the vessel are understood in the morning and carried out during the day.

Maintaining the vessel in a good, clean state of repair.

Ensuring the boat is left in a clean and tidy condition at the end of the day’s operation, to a standard that you would be happy to receive it yourself the following day.

Conducting daily maintenance checks, including any minor repairs if able, otherwise communicating with other skippers/Pleasure Boat Manager/commercial team where appropriate.

Conducting periodic Maintenance and Safety checks, reporting any faults/actions required to the Pleasure Boat Manager.

Assisting with any mechanical and cosmetic work on the fleet, as requested by the Commercial Team Manager or Pleasure Boat Manager.

Ensuring boats are sufficiently fuelled and watered at all times.

Maintaining daily operations as per instructions from Pleasure Boat Manager at daily morning meetings with regard to sailing times, daily bookings and evening charters.

Ensuring daily sailing sheets, handover sheets and passenger number counting forms are correctly completed.

Ensuring general tidiness of the landing stage and passenger entrance area, including signage and availability of marketing materials such as cruise guide brochures.

Ensuring safe access and egress for all passengers on board at all times, including crew members, stewards and contractors.

Touting for customers, encouraging bar sales during embarkation, providing information and marketing the company’s other products where appropriate.

Selling tickets and serving drinks at the bar where required.

Maintaining a high level of personal presentation at all times, commensurate with the job role.

Bringing boats in from the overnight moorings each morning and putting them out at the end of the day’s operation.

Maintaining an up-to-date MCA BoatMaster License and First Aid Certificate.
