Sailing into Spring!

February might be too early to start talking about spring, especially when the forecast is threatening snow. But the days are getting definitely longer, birds are tweeting in the Roman Gardens, and daffodils have been spotted by the Old Dee Bridge. It’s not far off now!

We’ve had a pretty busy winter…

After a run of sold out party nights leading up to Christmas, we then continued sailing on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day for the first time. Our “Twixmas Special” of a free mince pie and hot drink proved very popular!

Once we’d taken down the tinsel and swept up the mince pie crumbs, it was time to get our hands dirty. We stripped everything off the boats (tables, benches, all the Peroni from the bar) and sailed up to Sandy Lane. A small crowd gathered to watch the Lady Diana, the Mark Twain and the Jackie lifted out of the water by a crane capable of lifting 300 tonnes.

Whilst out of the water, the fleet recieved some TLC and a fresh coat of paint. All mechanical parts were inspected, and ultrasound tests carried out to measure the thickness of the hulls. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) visited to check everything was shipshape – similar to when you take your car for its MOT.

After ten busy days of sanding, painting, and cleaning, the fleet were returned to the water, where we put the furniture back on and added the finishing touches. The MCA came back for another inspection and… we passed!

So we’re ready for another busy season on the river – starting this weekend!

Half-hour City Cruises will be sailing every day from Saturday 15th February, right up to Christmas and beyond.

Here’s a quick peak at what else coming up this season:

Push the boat out with our Valentine’s Weekend Special! Book you half-hour cruise for 2 in advance and we’ll throw in a glass of fizz each and heart-shaped chocolates to share. What could be more romantic? Saturday 15th and Sunday 15th Feburary only, must be booked in advance.

Our Mother’s Day Vintage Afternoon Tea Cruise is the perfect way to treat Mum – homemade cakes, scones and sandwiches washed down with tea and coffee (and a glass of Prosecco) while admiring river views from the Lady Diana. Complete with vintage crockery and frilly tablecloths. Perfect! Booking essential.

You asked and we listened! We’ve extended our Two-hour Iron Bridge Cruise┬átimetable to include Easter weekend, plus extra dates in May, June, September and October. Even more opportunities to spot kingfishers and cormorants on the River Dee.

Fish & Chip Fridays are a firm Friday night favourite, suitable for all the family. A two-hour evening cruise with a tasty chippy tea – plus a fun game of bingo, with prizes to be won. Sailing on the first Friday of the month from May to September, with extra dates sometimes added. Click here for tickets and more info.

Elvis is back in the building by popular demand! After a sell out show in 2019, the King of Rock n Roll returns to rock the boat again for one night only. A performance by top tribute act Marcus Hallows with a delicious BBQ style supper. Dust off your Blue Suede Shoes for this one-off night on 11 July.

Plus our legendary Party Nights Afloat will be back every Saturday night, with themes including Mamma Mia, Motown, 90s to Now, 60s 70s 80s Rewind and more.

We’re looking forward to what promises to be another busy season. For more information on any of our events – or to start planning your bespoke private hire – just get in touch.
